Steven's War Medals and war stories!

Last Thursday Steven (Makenzie's Dad) came to school and talked to all the Year 4 chidlren about the time he spent in the Army and he showed off some very special medals of his own and also some of his grandfather's (Makenzie's great grandfather).
Steven spoke to us about what life was like in wartimes - back in the world wars and also in more recent times when he served for the Army.Steven also brought along a statue of a soldier that looks a bit like he did when he was in Bosnia.He even brought along his army hat.  We learned that a soldier wears their own medals on the left hand side and if you are wearing someone else's medals you wear them on the right. Thanks so much for coming in and sharing your special medals and knowledge with us.

What was I thinking???

Arghhh I do wonder if the Anzac Biscuits could last until the 28th June?? I very much doubt they will still be crunchy by then!!!

I have made a mistake and wrote 28th June - the note on the Anzac Biscuits sheet should read Tuesday 28th April!!!!

Baking Day.

Today Room 20 and Room 19 headed over to Room 3 to bake some Anzac Biscuits.  We all helped out in some way to make the biscuits and certainly enjoyed the finished product - delicious!!!!

Inquiry Time in Term 2

For the first half of this term we will be learning about Anzac Day and WW1.  You could start thinking about Anzac Day and what it means to you.  If anyone has anything related to Anzac Day or WW1 and would like to share it with our class, please bring it in.  We would love to share anything.  Some children may even have relatives such as a great grand-dad or great-great uncle who may have served in the war.  We would love to share any family stories.  Our reading programme will be based around WW1 readings and a large part of our writing will be the same focus.
There are some amazing youtube clips and websites we will be looking at in the coming weeks.

Looking Forward to Monday...

I hope you have all had an amazing holiday and are super excited about coming back on Monday.  I can't wait to see you all and hear about your holiday and see you all together again.
Remember to wear the winter uniform - Girls are the ones who need to have the change.  You don't need to have your hats at school this term, although i would still encourage you to bring it along as we are still getting some lovely sunny days.  See you all on Monday morning.
